Thomas Rew is a right-handed wicketkeeper-batter who has come through Somerset's pathway from a young age, joining the county's Emerging Player Programme before progressing to the Academy. He made his Somerset Second XI debut in 2023 and earned wider attention in May 2025 when he was selected for a PCC XI against Zimbabwe, scoring a remarkable unbeaten century in the second innings. His leadership and rapid development also saw him rise through England's age-group setup, eventually being named England Under-19 captain. Rew made his senior Somerset First XI debut during the 2025 Vitality Blast and quickly made his mark in white-ball cricket. He featured in 10 Metro Bank One Day Cup matches that summer, scoring 308 runs at an impressive average of 44, including two fifties. He went on to make his first-class debut for Somerset against Yorkshire in August 2025, in the process linking up with his older brother James to become the first pair of brothers to represent Somerset's First XI together in nearly three decades. His achievements earned him selection for the England Lions squad that toured Australia later that winter alongside James. His international standing grew further at the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he captained England all the way to the final. On his return, Rew secured a long-term contract extension with Somerset running through the end of the 2028 season, with the county viewing him as a key multi-format player. He played only 3 first-class games in the 2026 season, but scored 409 runs, including an incredible match-saving 149 against Warwickshire.
